			Crumlin boxing legend '''Ando (Andrew) Reddy''' was laid to rest today after passing away "peacefully" at home on Sunday.

			The boxer was a two-time Olympian, competing at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics at flyweight, and the 1960 Rome Olympics at featherweight.

			His funeral mass was held in Church of the Assumption, Walkinstown this morning where he was remembered as a "great husband, great father, great grandfather and great great-grandfather".

			His son Alan paid tribute to his father during the funeral, saying he was "much more than a brilliant boxer".

			He said: "He was a brilliant son, husband and father.

			"He fell madly in love for an incredible woman, my mother Sheila, when he was 18.

			"He was wise enough to realise the importance of love and family life over the prestigious titles and fame.

			"He was in this for the long haul. That decision was to serve him well and lasted 70 years."

			Alan said at the heart of his father was his family.

			"All they wanted was to have happy, healthy children and they achieved this and for that we thank them.

			"The measure of my dad can't be counted in medals or trophies, although there were literally hundreds of them.

			"The measure of my dad is more to be found within the realms of family ,commitment, dedication, love and persistence, his religious faith, his strong belief in God, and a good work ethic."

			The Irish Athletic Boxing Association paid tribute to Ando online, saying they were "deeply saddened" by his death.

			They wrote: "Ando grew up on the famous Downpatrick Road in Crumlin where no fewer than 4 National senior champions lived at the time. Ando was 6 times national senior champion and 2 time Olympian, he contested the 1952 Helsinki Olympics at flyweight, and the 1960 Rome Olympics at featherweight.

			"Ando’s brother, Tommy, who died in 1993, boxed at Helsinki as a featherweight – the brothers were among only a handful of sibling pairs to contest the same Olympiad in boxing at that time.

			Ando spent many decades contributing to the growth of our sport at Sandymount and British Rail BCs."

			Ando was buried in Bohernabreena Cemetery.
