Moore delivered the costly blow and Referee Ted Jamieson penalized him one point. Final official tabulations showed Jamieson scoring 5-4, Judge Bill Lachenmaier 6-4, and Judge Julius Goldman 5-4. Both Jamieson and Goldman said they had scored the fifth round even, but gave it to Johnson, 1-0, as a result of the low blow. Without the foul blow, the fight would have ended in a draw, since Jamieson's and Goldman's cards would have read 4-4. Under Wisconsin rules, if two officials call it even, the bout is a draw. Johnson, weighing 171, had lost decisions in two previous scraps with the Clevelander. Ranked the No. 5 light heavy himself, Johnson piled up a lead in the early rounds with a light left which kept poking into Moore's face, keeping him off balance. The harder punching Moore, 7½ pounds heavier than his foe, didn't begin to score until the fifth round and then grew progressively more accurate.
