			Wirtz began his business career in real estate, and became friends with Norris when they purchased the Olympia and its main tenant, the Detroit Red Wings. He would then later buy the [[Chicago Stadium]] and stakes in [[Madison Square Garden]] and the St. Louis Arena, before starting the IBC with Norris. During this time he would also buy the NHL's Chicago Black Hawks: his family retains ownership of the 'Hawks to this day.
