Tingle and his second wife lived on funds provided by the British Residents Association until he was interned on March 1, 1943. He was released on October 1, 1946. Earlier in 1947, Tingle's ex-wife had married a man whom she had lived with since 1940. After that revelation, she accepted Tingle's offer of 75 pounds to settle the case.
