			*Had an amateur record of 32-2.
			*During his professional career, Montgomery defeated such fighters as [[Lulu Costantino]], [[Davey Day]], [[Beau Jack]], [[Lew Jenkins]], [[Tony Pellone]], [[Joey Peralta]], [[Leo Rodak]], [[Ike Williams]], and [[Fritzie Zivic]].
			*Won the Pennsylvania State Lightweight Title with a ten-round unanimous decision against [[Human:26115\|Mike Evens]] on October 24, 1939.
			*Defeated [[Beau Jack]] by a fifteen-round unanimous decision on May 21, 1943 to win the [[NYSAC]] World Lightweight Championship.
			*Lost the title to [[Beau Jack]] by a fifteen-round unanimous decision on November 19, 1943.
			*Knocked out [[Ike Williams]] in the twelfth round on January 25, 1944. Montgomery ended Williams' 32-fight win streak.
			*Regained the title from [[Beau Jack]] with a fifteen-round split decision on March 3, 1944.
			*The fourth and final meeting between Montgomery and [[Beau Jack]] was a non-title fight that took place on August 4, 1944 at Madison Square Garden. The bout was proclaimed "The War Bonds Fight." Tickets were only made available to interested parties who purchased war bonds. Jack and Montgomery were enlisted men in the U.S. Army at the time of the contest, and both refused to take purses for the fight. The bout raised $35,864,900 for the World War II national bond drive. Jack won by a ten-round majority decision.
			*Fought a rematch with Ike Williams on August 4, 1947. Williams, the [[NBA]] Lightweight Champion, knocked out Montgomery, the [[NYSAC]] Lightweight Champion, in six rounds to become the Undisputed World Lightweight Champion.
			*Promoted several boxing shows at the [[Blue Horizon]] in Philadelphia in 1971. Montgomery became the first black promoter ever in Philadelphia.
			*Inducted into the [[International Boxing Hall of Fame]] in 1995.
			*In the [[:Ring Magazine: September 2001\|September 2001]] issue of [[The Ring Magazine]], Montgomery was named the 9th [[Division-By-Division - The Greatest Fighters of All-Time\|greatest lightweight of all-time]].
