	Melson, A 2003 West Point graduate who is half Jewish-half Creole, donates his entire fight purses to Team Fight to Walk (an organization he co-founded and has since brought on many notable boxers to join the team) in support of America's first clinical trial featuring non embryonic stem cells that can help cure Chronic Spinal Cord Injuries. Melson's day to day life includes heavily involvement with the trial, which is awaiting formal approval from Congress as of March 2016. These trials were successfully ran in China by the same doctor that will be doing it here in the US, Dr. Wise Young. Through his efforts, which have been featured on HBO Real Sports, ESPN, Yahoo, Sports Illustrated and The Wall Street Journal amongst other national media outlets, more than $350,000 has been raised. 	As an amateur, Melson won the 48th World Military Boxing Championship gold medal in the 69 kg. weight class, and was a four-time United States Army champion, a three-time NCBA All-American boxer, a four-time West Point Brigade Open Boxing Champion, and received the Colonel Marcus Award. He also won gold medals at the All Army Boxing Championships twice and at the Armed Forces Boxing Championships twice. He made it to the quarterfinals in the welterweight 2005 World Amateur Boxing Championships, and won a bronze medal at the 2005 US Amateur Boxing Championships.
