	Heavyweight Calvin Brock hit the deck against veteran contender Jameel McCline and yet showed he was the better boxer, the more complete fighter, in taking a 10 round unanimous decision on the under of the Margarito-Cintron ESPN pay per view card from Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, Nevada.

	Brock, 25-0 (20), is beginning to prove that a small-ish heavyweight not named Chris Byrd can compete in the land of the giants, which is post-modern heavyweight boxing. The 6'7" McCline, 31-5-3 (19), has always lacked the kind of sustained aggression to make the most of his size; additionally, McCline's has often seemed to lack the depth of confidence needed to sustain a campaign that would take him all the way in the heavyweight division.

	The one thing no one has ever accused Brock of is lacking in self-confidence. Utilizing his excellent left jab, Brock can deliver a very hard left hook in combination, as well as mix it to the body. In his most recent outings Brock has shown he has some staying power for a 218 pound heavyweight and that quality came in handy, when in the seventh round McCline found Brock with a right-left that wobbled and dropped a surprised Calvin Brock. It was one of the few tight left hooks McCline was able to get home with cleanly. Though hurt, Brock fought back with multiple shots in the best sustained exchange of the fight. Near the end of the seventh, it was a reenergized Brock who was landing with authority, as McCline began to show signs of fatigue.

	These two fighters have sparred together - Brock playing a south paw for McCline training for Chris Byrd - so there were not a lot of secrets to decode. And yet the early part of the fight was more technical than Team McCline might have hoped for; their guy didn't get to Brock's body early in any systemic way.

	McCline did cut Brock in the first but it was not a factor, as McCline's jab was less penetrating than it had been earlier in his career. No question, McCline was ready for Brock's left hook, so Brock went to work with his right, a defining blow in the second, third and fourth rounds.
