"Carlos Palomino riddled Mexicali's Zovek Barajas into submission before a roaring crowd of 4,545 at Olympic Auditorium. It went into the books as a 9th round knockout but Barajas was on his feet at the end. Staggered repeatedly in the 5th, 6th and 8th rounds, Barajas seemed determined to remain erect in the 9th, too, despite a barrage of blows that crashed against his head and body. Sagging against the ropes in his opponents corner, Barajas was saved further hammering when referee Chuck Hassett wisely stopped the onslaught at 1:29 of the 9th." -The L.A. Times
