His death resulted in the faculty immediately closing down the school&#039;s boxing program after a &quot;hurried-up meeting.&quot; (Boxing had been as popular as basketball at the school. When the University opened a new sports arena on campus in 1998, there was a special ceremony during half-time of a basketball game at the old Fieldhouse saluting the old college boxers and their coach, [[John J.
