"Clyde Gray of Toronto, the Canadian and Commonwealth welterweight champion, stopped Sammy Rookard of Spartanburg, NY, at 2:16 of the 3rd round of a scheduled 10 round preliminary bout Saturday. Referee Sammy Luftspring halted the bout after Rookard had been dropped for the second time by a Gray right hand. Gray began to dominate the fight in the 2nd round, catching Rookard with a flurry of looping right hands. In the 3rd round, he caught Rookard with a combination of punches, a looping right putting the American down for the mandatory eight-count. When the match resumed Gray hit him with two straight rights that sent Rookard to the canvas and the referee wasted no time stopping the bout." -Canadian Press
