Gonzalez, a former Lubbock boy with support here, opened slowly, with Cokes reddening his face in the 1st round with three fast jabs. Gonzalez took the mandatory eight-count at 2:49 of the 2nd round from a good right hand, but the Odessa boxer came back to hold his own with Cokes from that point on, although Cokes did bloody his mouth in the 3rd. Cokes, scoring with straight jabs took the lead most of the time, but Gonzalez occasionally went on the offensive.
