After graduating from college he started Idaho&#039;s first work program for the mentally handicapped and served on the Mayor&#039;s committee to hire mentally handicapped youth. He was presented with the Distinguished Service Award for community service by the ISU Athletic Association. Dale was also one of the original founders of the Special Olympics and was a member of the executive board.<br /> After he and his family moved to Boise in 1969 he worked with the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation. Dale continued working with youth in boxing and for 20 years served as the President of the Idaho Golden Gloves. He later earned the ISU Sports Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement award. In 2015 Dale was inducted to the Idaho Golden Gloves Hall of Fame.<br /> John Evans, Idaho&#039;s governor appointed Dale the State Athletic Director, a volunteer position he held for 21 years. Dale was honored to receive the Portrait of a Distinguished Citizen Award in 1978. During this time Dale worked as an Allstate insurance agent.</div>
