Jeff Harding of Australia scored a majority-decision victory over Dennis Andries of Britain to regain the WBC Light Heavyweight Title.

In a brutal, 12-round slugfest at the Hammersmith Odeon, Harding survived an early barrage and came from behind to beat Andries for the second time in three bouts.

In avenging the only loss of his career to date, Harding improved to 21-1, while Andries fell to 39-9-2.

There was little finesse in the fight as both men went at each other relentlessly for 12 rounds. Remarkably, there were no knockdowns. Andries dominated the early rounds, pummeling Harding with roundhouse punches. The Australian never buckled and soon began to take control of the fight with short, sharp punches on the inside. By the sixth, Andries appeared tired, while Harding picked up the pace and continued to find openings in the Briton's defense. Despite cuts around both eyes and bruises over his face, the 26-year-old Harding appeared relatively fresh at the end of the fight. Andries, who was listed as 37 but widely believed to be 39, looked exhausted and had significant swelling to both eyes.
