	For the second time in a year in a big television match, the heavyweight hope came up short against an opponent that he stunned during the bout, but inexplicably couldn't stop. Liakhovich, whom Guinn buzzed in the fifth round with a punishing overhand right. But in the end, Guinn (25-2, 18 KOs) he lost a 10-round unanimous decision.

	Ocasionally, he heeded their advice. But not often enough. Serguei Liakhovich applied constant pressure and landed enough combinations to gain a 10-round, unanimous decision in a thrilling bout at Bally's Atlantic City.

	~~"The guy was the perfect opponent for him," Shields said. "He couldn't have asked for a better opponent. But he didn't do what we asked him to do."~~

	Despite the letdown, however, Guinn nearly avoided a defeat. Judges Lynn Carter (97-93), Eugene Grant (96-94) and Steve Weisfeld (96-94) all gave Liakhovich the final round by a 10-9 margin, as did The Press (96-94). Had Guinn won it, the bout would have ended in a majority draw.
