"Billy 'Dynamite' Douglas, 164, and Don Fullmer, 163, traded hard jabs in a nip-and-tuck opening heat in front of 3,000 fans at the Lausch Building. In the 2nd round, Fullmer's stiff left hand opened up a cut under Douglas' left eye. Fullmer's busy left peppered the injured orb and closed it almost completely in the 3rd round. Douglas was virtually a one-eyed fighter and Fullmer took advantage of the injury to slip Douglas's jabs and pound home right hand counters to Billy's blindside ribs. Douglas rallied in the 5th and 6th, cutting Fullmer's right eye. Douglas pressed his advantage in the 7th, but Fullmer reopened the cut under Douglas' eye in the 8th and again Billy was sent back on the defensive. In the 10th, however, the fans screamed as the cold and calculating Douglas took control, hurting Fullmer with an uppercut and a tremendous right. Moments later Douglas floored Fullmer with another right for an official knockdown.
