	He was born in Hume, Erie county. As a child he moved with his parents to Attica. After graduating from school he became an apprentice in local printing office. Around 1891 he moved to Buffalo and started working in the composing room of the [[Buffalo Express]]. He later worked in ~~[[Cleveleland~~ Plain Dealer]] and one of Chicago daily newspapers. Upon returning to Buffalo he again joined the Express, and after George Dietrich, then the sporting editor of Buffalo Enquirer, moved to Cleveland, McBride was appointed the sporting editor.		McBride was the sporting editor of the Buffalo Enquirer for 18 years until his death, and wrote under the name "Hotspur".
