Perkins relied on good left jabs and some hard rights to pile up points most of the way. He lost only the 5th round on the judges' scorecards when, after drawing blood with a right to Vasquez' nose, he was almost floored by the Mexican at the end of the round. Perkins kept jabbing at Vasquez' left eye during most of the 5th and it was almost closed by the end of the fight. There were no knockdowns."
