	Yero was born in Cuba, but raised in Miami Beach, FL. As an amateur he was almost unbeatable. Experts saw Yero as a future ring great. He was 17-0 with 17 knockouts and had won three Jr. Amateur Titles, when he and a friend were arrested for beating a Miami Beach lawyer who was out walking his dog at 3 in the morning. Yero, 17 was found not guilty after it was determined that the lawyer had started the fight. Yero went on to post a 31-2 amateur record, including a 1984 National Golden Glove Title. However, his private demons took over, and though he was undefeated as a professional fighter in his first 10 bouts over a 5 year span, he was constantly in trouble with the law. In 1990, he was shot in the hand after he punched a Miami Beach female police officer in the jaw. In 1993 he was shot at a Miami bus stop three times. 15-2 at the time, his career was halted by constant run-ins with the police.
