"La Barba met Carter's rushes with his elbows and shoulders making the dusky battler miss often. It was a case of a clever fighter and a gamester. Carter took several hard jolts on the chin when La Barba decided to open up, but didn't stop his continual boring in. It was one of the best boxing matches seen here in a long time."

La Barba retreated in the first three rounds as he allowed Carter to press the fight. Carter missed many blows, and was countered effectively by La Barba with uppercuts to the body. The Times gave the 1st to La Barba, the 2nd to Carter, and had the 3rd even. By the 4th round, La Barba's body work had taken it's toll on Wildcat Carter as he was pretty much tamed. La Barba continued to back away from Carter, but scored effectively taking the 4th and 5th rounds. In the final round, with the fight in the bag for him, La Barba attacked Carter with both hands to the head and body, as he cut Carter in the face.
