Arizmendi got off to a slow start, losing the first two rounds, as Gen bounced in and out scoring points. Arizmendi began to score in the 3rd and 4th rounds, having a strong 4th as he repeatedly rocked Gen with hooks and crosses. In the 5th round, Gen used his boxing ability to keep Arizmendi at a distance, and right before the round ended cut Arizmendi over the left eye with a headbutt. In the 6th and 7th rounds, Gen worked on the cut and also cut Arizmendi in the mouth, as he beat him to the punch continuously. In the 8th round, Arizmendi scored with his right hand, but Gen rallied strongly before the bell. In the 9th round, Arizmendi gained an edge in the last twenty seconds as he drove Gen to the ropes with both hands. The two fought a give-and-take 10th round, with Gen having the edge. The crowd booed the decision for Arizmendi.
