New page

<fight>1406409</fight>

In the opening preliminary bout on the Maddalone-Baker fight card dinner and show held at Russo's on the Bay in Brooklyn, New York, hosted by Joe DeGuardia's Star Productions, Jacque 'The Harlem Warrior' Lewis won a four round unanimous decision over Vernon Jenkins of Harlem New York City, in a battle of debuting heavyweights.

Looks proved to be deceiving. Jenkins appeared in excellent physical condition, while the shorter Lewis looked fat and out of shape. After an even first round where not much happened, Lewis took the fight to Jenkins, coming forward with alot of left jabs, with Jenkins unable to muster an offensive reply of any sort. Lewis came to fight, never broke a sweat, and never tired of chasing his opponent, while the defensive Jenkins appeared to be breathing heavily from the second round on. Lewis broke a big smile exiting the ring as a fan at ringside told him he had good potential, but he needed to eat fewer happy meals, sending the crowd into laughter!
