Smiling Hal Stevenson of Lawrence annexed the New England flyweight title by defeating Frankie Hebert of this city in an eight-round bout at the Moody club last evening. The Stevenson-Hebert bout, the final bout on the program, was a great surprise even to the former's staunchest admirers. The Lawrence lad outboxed Hebert all the way, the latter having considerable difficulty finding the Lawrence boy, and on several occasions when the two stood toe to toe and swapped punches, Stevenson's blows were the more effective. Hal flashed in the first round and again in the second. In the next three, honors were either even or slightly in favor of the champion. However, during the remaining rounds, Stevenson earned the decision without any question, landing on Hebert almost at will. When the judges verdict was announced it met with general acclaim. '''The Lowell Sun, December 19, 1924'''.
