The bout was almost over before it began. Seconds into the bout with winless Damon Clement of Dayton, Ohio, now 0-3, Clement landed a flurry of punches on Kownacki, who looked somewhat nervous as the bout started. In the confusion that ensued, one of Kownacki's gloves touched the canvas, considered a knockdown. He got right back up to his feet in a corner, with referee Eddie Cotton almost immediately engaged in the count. The problem was that Clement was never signaled nor sent to the neutral corner. Clement, who did not budge from the spot of the 'knockdown', proceeded to punch Kownacki twice in the head from behind the referee. Both referee and Kownacki could have been injured by the unintentional fouls but it didn't happen. The bout resumed without a time break, with no disqualification or warning given. Soon afterwards Kownacki landed a right-left right-left flurry which sent Clement to the canvas. Clement beat the count, and was eating jabs to the head in a corner as the bell sounded. As round 2 began, Kownacki began landing straight right hands. A Kownacki straight right to the head sent Clement to the canvas on his back with a loud thud, where he was ten counted out at 42 seconds of round 2. Despite the opening jitters, Kownacki displayed great potential as a heavyweight, and demonstrated the ability to throw accurate power punches hard enough to end the bout early.</ins></div></td></tr> </table>
