The ''Los Angeles Times'' felt Armstrong won eight out of the ten rounds. McDaniels engaged Armstrong on his terms, standing toe-to-toe, trading with the former three division champion. Armstrong dished out his most severe punishment in the 7th and 9th rounds, landing approximately twenty unanswered blows in the 9th. McDaniels finished the bout with his left eye swollen shut, his face bruised, and his body showing the wear of Armstrong's bodywork. Armstrong finished with his mouth and nose bleeding, and with mouses under and above his left eye.
