Mitchell appeared unwilling to fight after the fifth round, in spite of the fact that he appeared to be leading up to that point in the bout. Mitchell who had rushed Zivic during the early part of the bout, began to hold on to Zivic. The referee first stopped the bout in the 6th round, but after the crowd disapproved, the commissioner ordered the bout resumed. Mitchell persisted with holding in the 7th and 8th rounds, and with about a minute left in the 9th round, and Mitchell continuing to hold, the commisioner ordered the bout stopped.

Mitchell's purse was upheld.
