New page

<fight>257929</fight>
Woods appeared to win the first four rounds. He was having a good fifth round, hammering Payne with lefts to the head when a terrific right hand knocked him down for a nine-count. Woods appeared badly hurt, and fortunate that the round was nearly over. Woods fought in retreat in the 6th and 7th rounds, offering very little offense. Woods began to fight more in the 8th, landing more left hands to the head, but was then hurt again by another right hand. Payne pursued the knockout in the 9th and 10th rounds, as Woods could only jab, run, and clinch. According to the ''Seattle Times'', most observers felt that Payne was entitled to the decision.
