Tony Valenti of Boston opened a nasty cut on the left cheek of veteran Gaylord Barnes of Trenton, N.J., Tuesday night to be awarded a seventh round TKO victory during a driving rainstorm. Valenti, at 160, had a two pound weight advantage over Barnes during the feature bout at Sargent Field. Valenti first cut Barnes on the cheek with a hard right in the fourth. He kept up a steady barrage of left hooks and jabs to the cut until it bled freely again in the seventh. After doctors examined the injury they ordered the bout stopped.
