Tebo was knocked down in the fifth, striking his head hard against the canvas, suffering a concussion, but he rose to his feet at eight before being counted out. He appeared dazed when he walked to the center of the ring and Referee Tommy McCarthy stopped the bout to save him from further punishment. He went to his corner where his seconds threw water in his face to revive him, but he slumped off his seat to the floor. Dr. J. S. Thomas gave him first aid and then rushed him to the hospital in critical condition. Tebo eventually recovered.
