Bassett was on top of the action until the 8th round, when Carter began to go for the knockout. Carter closed with a strong 10th round, again hurting Bassett with a right hand to the jaw. Bassett's left eye began closing in the 3rd round, while Carter's left eye was cut in the 5th round. Carter was a slight underdog in this bout.
