McCafferty won the first round, and then opened a bad cut over Maxim's eye, that brought about an examination from the ringside physician. Maxim sensing the desperation of the situation came out and caught McCafferty with a left hook that sent him to the canvas. McCafferty came back strong in the 3rd round, to hold Maxim even on one judge's scorecard. Midway into the 4th round, Maxim caught McCafferty with a right to the jaw, that sent McCafferty to his knees. McCafferty got up at eight, and went down from another short right hand. The referee then stopped the bout.
