Before a packed house at Coeur d’Alene last night George McCormick, the boy with the right hand, stopped Young Firpo, the wild Bull of Burke, in the second round of their scheduled 10-frame main event.
For over a year Firpo has reigned supreme in the Coeur d’Alene as the man who couldn’t be beaten. He has stowed his opponents away with clocklike regularity, but McCormick was too clever for him.
The fight came to a sudden close early in the second round when McCormick caught Firpo off balance and planted a short right, flush on the button. The Bull hit the floor like lead and Referee Bill Guimond started the mathematical pronunciations.
