Romero staggered Thompson badly with a left cross in the 2nd round, but the bell rang before he had a chance to finish Thompson. Thompson had recovered as the 3rd round began, and battered Romero against the ropes. In the 4th round a weakened Romero, was dropped for a nine-count. Romero got up in bad shape, and Thompson finished him with a straight left, right cross, and a finishing left uppercut.
