After a slow opening round, Stribling took the 2nd through 5th rounds. McCarron began a rally in the 6th round, that would see him take the next four rounds. In the 9th round, McCarron landed a left uppercut to the jaw that nearly floored Stribling, who would hang on for the remainder of the round. Stribling recovered between rounds, and came out and won the final round. The ''Macon Telegraph'' reported that the crowd felt the bout to be a draw. Stribling bled from his nose in the second half of the bout.
