	Andy Thomas, East Side aspirant for the crown worn by Mickey Walker, provided one of the biggest surprises of the winter season when he knocked out Bobby Michaels, the clever Harlem boy, in the first round of a scheduled twelve-round star event before a packed house at the Rink Sporting Club last night. Thomas took exactly one minute and twenty-two seconds to dispose of his rival. The action was but a few seconds old when Thomas had Michaels groggy from the effects of rapid-fire rights and lefts to the body, the Harlem lad going down under the impress of a right-hand smack to the chin for a count of nine. Michaels, unable to defend himself when he arose, backed away from his opponent and Referee Patsy Haley stopped the bout. Michaels was in a helpless condition and had to be helped to his corner by Haley and Thomas. Last night’s bout was a return affair, Thomas having won a previous engagement in Madison Square Garden on a foul. Michaels and his followers were confident in the latters abilty to win, and none were too rash as to predict that he would not go the route, although Thomas entered the ring the favorite to repeat.
