The uncertainties of sock market operations were never more graphically illustrated than by the dissappointing showing of Billy Besmanoff, 195, Germany, in a listless ten with Archie McBride, 186, Trenton, N.J., at the St. Nicholas Arena. Against McBride, however, the German was slow and sluggish, his punches lacked authority, and his two-handed combinations were conspicuous by their absence. It may be that Besmanoff, after beating a top name like Baker, held McBride too cheaply, and by the time he realized his error he couldn&amp;#039;t get started. Only once in the ten rounds did Billy display any signs of snapping out of his lethargy. Just before the bell ended the eighth round he staggered McBride with a left hook to the chin, but that represented his sole effective moment off the fight. McBride, meanwhile, uncovered one of his better performances. The Trenton veteran boxed well, punched fast, and was especially strong in the infighting.&lt;/div&gt;</summary>
