New page

<fight>802764</fight>
"Refusing to continue the contest after he had taken a five-minute rest in the fifth round of the main event at the Reno arena last night, Dixie LaHood lost by a technical knockout to Fay Kosky at the conclusion of the weirdest fight staged in a Reno ring in years. Fouls predominated throughout the match and the Reno arena's adaptation of the New York foul rule was given a thorough try-out. LaHood had no inclination to fight last night. He didn't want to go into the ring in the first place and forced the promoters to increase the size of his purse before he would don his fighting clothes. After he did get into the fight, he plainly hoped he could find some opening whereby he could crawl out and he selected fouls as his best chance. Dixie pawed ineffectually at the slashing Kosky, but most of his feeble blows were short. Fay, on the other hand, evidently tried to make a fight of it and slashed at Dixie's head and stomach continuously. It wasn't long before Dixie intimated that he had been fouled. Then he tried it again and again, but Referee Neal declined to act. In the third round the tables were turned. In a mix-up at close quarters at the ropes something happened and Kosky went down, writhing and twisting on the floor. Under the new rules, Kosky was lifted to his chair, a doctor was called and he was given a five-minute rest. Then he expressed himself as being ready again and the one-sided contest was resumed. The end came in the fifth. Dixie clutched his stomach, cried 'foul' and walked to his corner to sit down. His second worked on him, but Dixie worked as hard as they did trying to keep from continuing the fight. When the referee told him his time was up, Dixie suddenly slipped out of his chair and on the floor and the fight was over. It was an unsatisfactory ending to what had been a slashing fight program up to the main event. (<i>Reno Evening Gazette</i>)
