According to the <i>New Orleans Times-Picayune</i>, "it was close, very close...The fight was not fast, though fairly interesting, because both apparently wanted to counter-punch and neither would do much leading." Williams got out in front, but it was even after the first six rounds. Williams took a good lead in the eighth and ninth rounds but Cocoa outboxed his opponent in the last four rounds.
