	A few months earlier in 1933, Pete Sanstol had met up once again with his friend, former flyweight world champion Fidel LaBarba, who was managed by the well-known [[George Blake]]. LaBarba and Sanstol had sparred and trained together for three weeks back in 1929, in Paris. According to the April 9, 1933, Sunday Morning ''Los ~~Angles~~ Times'': “They became friends—almost chums. The serious of Sanstol and his vein of Scandinavian humor attracted Fidel. It interested Blake. Sanstol studied the two Americans. He asked Blake to manage him.” But Blake refused Sanstol's request, as Blake would take on no other boxers while LaBarba was still fighting.
