LaBua, a newcomer to the national middleweight scene, showed durability and a fearless counter-punching attack. He stood up well under Turner's slashing hands, but the youngster from East Meadow, New York, was unable to cope with Turner's superior ring experience. Turner's eye was opened in the 6th round, but he managed to protect it after that. Turner also had a mouse over his left eye. Although the fight turned out to be worthy of any fan's rapt attention, only 1,300 braved a snowstorm to see the nationally televised scrap." -Associated Press

*Turner was assessed at being unable to meet Gene Fullmer in MSG on January 6th due to the cut over his right eye. It was also assumed that it would be LaBua meeting Fullmer on the date. However, Fullmer and Turner eventually met on February 17th of '56 after a Turner-LaBua rematch.
