Turner's margin was set up principally in the 4th when he broke open a cut over LaBua's right eye. This wound bled freely thereafter. It was another brawl, reminiscent of their previous battle, and for the second time LaBua finished stronger, but his rally came just too late to earn him the verdict. When LaBua suffered the 4th round cut, Turner seemed to gain confidence, and although LaBua came back to win the 6th and 10th, Gil seemed to have the rest of the route." -Syracuse Post-Standard

*This bout was originally scheduled as the rubber match between Gene Fullmer and Turner, but Fullmer pulled out a few days earlier claiming a virus infection. LaBua came in as a substitute.
*This sparked a dispute between Syracuse promoter Norman Rothschild and the IBC on who would stage Fullmer v Turner III. Rothschild claimed that when Fullmer withdrew that he was automatically suspended in NY state until he fulfilled the contract with him for the fight. However, the IBC matchmaker Billy Brown claimed that Fullmer v Turner III would take place in MSG on either February 24th or March 2nd of '56. The final result was Fullmer v Turner III took place in the Garden on February 17th.
