"Hector Thompson retained his Commonwealth junior welterweight title with a 10th round knockout against Martin Beni of Papua New Guinea at Broadmeadow Basketball Stadium last night. Thompson was on top throughout the fight and took only 45 seconds in the 10th round to knock Beni down. He had hurt the Papua New Guinea champion with a series of lefts and a right uppercut in the 9th round. Beni held on until Thompson again hit out with a series of straight lefts and he finally fell to a right to the jaw. Beni's handlers threw in the towel as he tried to get to his knees." -The Canberra Times
