In 1972, Siler was charged with manslaughter in the shooting death of a friend.<br />
Siler was found guilty and sentenced to ''Belle Glades Correctional Institute''.<br />
<br />
After serving a 7-year sentence (1972-1979), Siler was released, and claimed he was a new man. He said he was now a ''Christian'', and had beaten his alcohol addiction.<br />
<br />
Following his release from prison, Siler started his own construction business, which was successful in the late 1980s.<br />
