Reported by the August 21, 1922 edition of the WENATCHEE DAILY WORLD as being 25-years-old then.<br />
Also said to have fought 150 bouts by that time.<br />
He took up boxing at the age of 14 under the guidance of Lonnie Austin, the former Pacific Coast Lightweight Champion.<br />
Fought early on in the Seattle area, with bouts against Sid Michell, Andy Doval, Harry Casey, Freanch Vaise and many others.<br />
In 1916 he went to work as a fireman with the O.W.R. & N. railroad, where he was still at by 1922.<br />
In 1917 he enlisted in the 23rd Engineers outfit, and sent overseas during World War I.<br />
He saw action in three major engagements of the war.<br />
He also fought 22 times in France, reportedly winning all.<br />
He knocked out LaFavre, the French lightweight, in three rounds.<br />
He returned to the Puget Sound area and bought a home at 5342 Eleventh Avenue South in Seattle.</div>Unknown user
