NEW BEDFORD -- Caesar C. "Sassy" Leite, 84, of Fairhaven, a former professional boxer, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the widower of Gladys F. (Margeson) Leite and son of the late Manuel C. and Mary (Pacheco) Leite.<br />
Born in Acushnet, he had lived in Fairhaven since 1958.<br />
A professional boxer for several years, Mr. Leite fought in Massachusetts and Rhode Island; he also fought in Madison Square Garden in New York City, N.Y. He was a trainer in this area for some time.<br />
Mr. Leite was a security guard for Reed & Barton and worked for Brittany Dye & Printing Corp. in New Bedford until his retirement.<br />
Survivors include two daughters, Linda E. Haggis of Fairhaven and Joyce Zazzi of Sacramento, Calif.; a son, William Leite of Swansea; two brothers, Abel Leite and Manuel Leite, both of New Bedford; a sister, Sophie LaFrance of Mattapoisett; five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and several cousins.<br />
He was the brother of the late Ernest Leite, Tobey Leite and Mary Correia.</div>John
