Renault quickly solved the Auburn Bulldog's defence and dominated through most of the middle rounds with a solid defence of his own and a beautiful right uppercut that had Floyd woozy by the 10th round. Johnson perservered despite the punishment he was taking, but could not seem to avoid the Canadian's wicked right mitt. In the 15th round Renault put him down twice, then finished him with a final devastating short right to the jaw. Johnson slumped to the canvas and was out in his corner for 10 minutes before commission doctors revived him.
