"Jackie Paterson, flyweight champion of the world and bantamweight champion of the British Empire, annexed the British bantamweight championship, when he knocked out the titleholder, Johnny King of Manchester, in the 7th round of a scheduled 15-rounder, at the Belle Vue, Manchester. King gave of his best throughout, and it must be added, for the first four rounds, succeeded in giving Paterson a boxing lesson. But it wasn't long before the Scot had found the range, and from then on it was truly the beginning of the end. Just before the end of the 4th, Paterson caught King with a right hook to the jaw, and down went the Manchester lad. Nothing but gameness and experience enabled him to stand up and keep out of harm's way for the remainder of the round. King was floored again in the next round. In the 6th King took counts of 7,9 and 8. Paterson wasted no time when the gong sounded for the 7th round, coming right out to the center of the ring and shooting out a vicious left hook. That was the one. King just went down and that was the end of that." -Ring Magazine, May 1947 issue<br />
