	"Lightweight champion Jimmy Carter is taking aim at Kid Gavilan's welterweight title after disposing of the challenge of George Araujo. The champ had a 3/4 inch cut over his right eye that required three or four stitches after he ended the scrap with a TKO in 2:16 of the 13th. That cut was opened in the 3rd and widened in the 5th. Carter trailed in the official voting at the end of eight rounds against the young challenger. Bouncing in and out with his flicking jab, Araujo made a fight out of it. Always pursued by Carter, the challenger would occasionally stand and flurry back. Suddenly Carter struck in the 9th with a furious burst that floored Araujo twice and left him confused and wobbly at the bell.
