At the end both boys were in good shape, and Referee Northride would have called it a draw if a decision had not been necessary.<br /> <br /> The first seven rounds were even, Gans&#039;s superior science being offset by Wilson&#039;s rushes. In the eighth Gans, who had been playing a waiting game, rushed Wilson. He in turn came back at Gans. In this round a swinging left-hand blow by Gans caught Wilson on the head and floored him. Wilson was on his feet in a flash and chased Gans about the ring.<br /> <br /> In the ninth Gans swung his left viciously on Wilson&#039;s head, following with his right. Wilson took the punishment kindly. The blows grew perceptibly harder, and at the end of the round Wilson, though retaining his pluck, was rather tired.<br /> <br /> The last round opened very slowly. After sparring for an opening the boys got together. Gans&#039;s foot slipped and Wilson swung a heavy uppercut, which missed. The Baltimorean&#039;s cleverness in getting away caused much applause.
