Langford proved his superiority in 15 rounds of scientific boxing. After the 3rd round Langford beat the southern wonder in a manner that left no doubt in the minds of the spectators as to which was the better man. After that 3rd round Langford demonstrated that his was the niftier left hand, which he kept poking into Gans face with rapidity and precision until Gans' face became red and swollen and his lips stained with blood. Gans also stabbed well, but Langford managed to slip them when the jabs became dangerous. But throughout the 15 rounds Langford was the aggressor, and when Gans did manage to open up, it was only momentary." -The Boston Globe

*The lightweight title - which, at the time held a limit of 133 lbs. - was not at stake as they signed for an agreed upon 138 lbs.
