			Joseph L. Podles Sr. was born on November 21, 1909, in Biloxi, Harrison County, Mississippi, USA. He was the father of [[Joe Poodles]]. (Joseph L. Podles Jr.), also a professional boxer.

			Podles used the surname "Poodles" interchangeably, as the accent of Baltimoreans in his neighborhood coupled with the mispronunciation of the surname often times led to the Podles family often being referred to as the "Poodles" family instead.

			Mr. Podles also became a local celebrity in east Baltimore as a local billiards hall owner (Poodles' Pool Hall), as he had thousands of pictures of active and retired boxers on the walls, and often got visits from many of them. The pool hall was also know for it's fourteen-foot ceilings, and it's three nine-foot long slate billiards tables. Over the years, there have been many human interest stories written about Mr. Podles' career, and pool hall in the local (Baltimore) press.


			Mr. Podles died on March 1st, 1982, at age 72, in Baltimore, MD.
